IPL 2025: Shreyas Iyer hails collective team effort after win against Lucknow Super Giants

Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer lauded the collective team effort after their comprehensive 37-run win against Lucknow Super Giants in the ongoing IPL 2025 at Dharamsala on Sunday. Asked to bat first by Rishabh Pant, PBKS posted a par score of 236 runs on the board, their highest score against LSG.

Prabhsimran Singh continued his purple patch, scoring 91 runs off just 48 balls. The PBKS opener smashed six fours and seven sixes in his blistering knock as he made the most of his second life after he was dropped on 21 by Nicholas Pooran.

Iyer also played a crucial knock of 45 runs off just 25 balls and added 78 runs with Prabhsimran Singh. Shashank Singh and Marcus Stoinis added the finishing touches, scoring 33 and 15 runs respectively.

On the other hand, Arshdeep Singh was right on the money from the get go and dismissed LSG’s top three batters – Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran.

Furthermore, Azmatullah Omarzai bagged two wickets and LSG kept losing wickets at regular intervals and thus could not put up a fight.

Shreyas Iyer said in the post-match presentation, “Elated to be honest. Everyone stepped up at the right time. The contribution was immense from each and every individual. Prabhs the way he performed today was exceptional. All the shots played were exceptional to the eyes.”

Speaking on PBKS’ poor record at Dharamsala, Iyer said, “I’m glad I did not know about it. I step on to the pitch to win the match, that was my mindset. We have been lucky so far, the luck has been there because of the hard work and the commitment shown. Everyone stepping at the right time, each and every individual know their roles precisely. There’s only thing we need to correct – that is the awareness and the way we move on the field. Just back yourself and back your instincts and not think too much about the stats and what it can offer. Results does matter and that is winning.”

Punjab Kings will next take on Delhi Capitals at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala on Thursday.
