Former Indian selector Kiran More wants the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel to give a run of at least 10 matches to Rinku Singh in the Indian team. Singh did not get to bat in his debut T20I match against Ireland at the Village, Dublin on Friday.
However, the left-hander finally got a chance to showcase his skills at the top level in the second T20I. The southpaw grabbed his opportunity with both hands as he smashed a blistering knock of 38 runs off just 21 balls and added the finishing touches to take India’s total to 185.
Singh smashed two fours and three sixes in his quickfire knock against the home team and he was awarded Player of the Match.
“Give Rinku Singh a run of 10 matches in the Indian team,” More said on Jio Cinema ahead of the 2nd T20I game.
“Rinku Singh can be a long-term batter at No. 6 for India,” he further added.
Meanwhile, Singh had a terrific run in IPL 2023, scoring 474 runs in 14 matches at an average of 59.25 and a strike rate of 149.53. The southpaw scored a total of four fifties in the season and really impressed while batting in the middle order for KKR.
Singh grabbed the headlines when he smashed five sixes in the final over against Yash Dayal to take KKR over the line.
The Aligarh-born cricketer was delighted after playing a match-winning knock in the second T20I as he said in the post-match presentation, “I am feeling very good. I was trying to do what I have done in the IPL. I was very confident and tried to stay calm. I listen to the captain (smiles). I am feeling very nice. I have been playing for 10 years. All my efforts have born fruition. I am happy to get the Man of the Match award in my first game.”
The third T20I between India and Ireland will be played at the same venue, the Village, Dublin on Wednesday.
