Jasprit Bumrah rejoins India squad ahead of Super 4 clash against Pakistan

In a significant development leading up to the much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan in the 2023 Asia Cup, Jasprit Bumrah, the ace fast bowler, has rejoined the Indian squad. This exciting news comes after Bumrah temporarily departed from the team to celebrate the birth of his firstborn son, Angad, with his wife, Sanjana Ganesan.

Bumrah took a brief leave from the action-packed tournament, leaving Sri Lanka for Mumbai right after India’s group-stage encounter with Pakistan.

The elated cricketer shared his joy on Instagram, exclaiming, “Our little family has grown, and our hearts are fuller than we could ever imagine! This morning we welcomed our little boy, Angad Jasprit Bumrah, into the world. We are over the moon and can’t wait for everything this new chapter of our lives brings with it.”

The cricket world is abuzz with anticipation as Bumrah gears up to rejoin the team for a crucial practice session at the R Premadasa Stadium, the chosen battleground for the Super Four match against arch-rivals Pakistan.

However, inclement weather looms over Colombo, potentially forcing the Indian team to opt for indoor practice for a second consecutive day.

Bumrah, a key asset for the Indian squad, is yet to deliver a ball in this Asia Cup. His absence was particularly felt in the second innings of India’s inaugural match against Pakistan, which was unfortunately washed out.

However, the Men in Blue managed a comfortable 10-wicket victory against Nepal in a rain-interrupted encounter, with Mohammed Shami admirably stepping into Bumrah’s shoes.

Replacing Bumrah, Mohammed Shami demonstrated his expertise, conceding a mere 29 runs in his seven overs and clinching the pivotal wicket of Sompal Kami during the first innings.

Having recently returned from a back injury-induced hiatus, Bumrah is eager to make his mark in the upcoming showdown against Pakistan.

His previous performances against the Men in Green haven’t been stellar, with only four wickets to his name at an average of 48.75 and a strike rate of 58.75 across six ODIs. These statistics remain his least favorable against any opponent in the format.

With Bumrah back in action and a fierce encounter on the horizon, cricket enthusiasts worldwide are poised for a thrilling spectacle in the 2023 Asia Cup.
