India’s batter Suryakumar Yadav revealed what skipper Rohit Sharma said in his motivational speech before the T20 World Cup final against South Africa. Yadav said Sharma urged every player to be turned on and bring their A-game to the ground in the all-important clash.
India lifted their second T20 World Cup title by beating the Proteas by seven runs at Barbados. The Men in Blue had their backs against the wall as the opposition needed 30 runs from as many balls. However, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh were able to turn the tables in the death overs.
“I can’t climb this mountain alone. If I have to reach the peak, I will need everyone’s oxygen. He also said, ‘Joh bhi hai, paon mein, dimag mein, dil mein (Whatever you have in your legs, mind and heart), just bring everything to the game. If that happens, we will not regret the night’. We all were moved,” Suryakumar was quoted as saying to Indian Express after India’s triumph.
Yadav showered praise on Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s leadership as he connects with everyone on and off the field.
“He connects with the players. Off the field, be it in a hotel room, or on the beach, he connects with everyone. So when a crunch situation comes, players know that he (Rohit) will back us. One feels I have to deliver for this man for the confidence and respect he gives to everyone,” Suryakumar added.
Meanwhile, Yadav was dismissed after scoring only three runs in the final. However, SKY took an unbelievable catch at long-off to dismiss David Miller on the first ball of the final over by Hardik Pandya when 16 runs were required.
