Kapil Dev slams Rohit Sharma’s form, says pressure is rising on Indian captain

Former Indian World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev has slammed Rohit Sharma for his poor form in the recent past. The former all-rounder feels the pressure is rising on the Indian captain as he hasn’t scored runs consistently at the top level.

Rohit was dismissed after scoring only two runs in the opening ODI against England as he got a top edge when he was trying to play the flick shot.

Earlier, Rohit could only manage 31 runs in three Test matches against Australia at an average of 6.20 and thus could not lead from the front. Furthermore, Rohit scored 42 runs in two Test matches against Bangladesh at 10.20 and aggregated only 91 runs in three Test matches against New Zealand at an average of 15.50 in 2024.

Kapil Dev said on Cricket Adda YouTube Channel, “In recent times, the side played well for some time. The team looks unsettled. When the captain’s form is poor, the team has problems. He (Rohit) is a big player.”

“I hope he returns to form quickly. I will say good luck to the coach. It takes time to settle in. The whole country is looking forward to the side’s performance,” he added.

Meanwhile, Rohit had scored 157 runs in three ODIs against Sri Lanka at an average of 52.33 and ended as the series’ highest run-getter. Rohit would look to be at his best in the second ODI against England at Cuttack.

Ahead of the opening ODI against England, Rohit said he would look to start fresh.

”For me, there is no reason to look in the past too much. It’s important I focus on what’s coming up and what lies ahead for me. I will look to start the series on a high,” Rohit said in the presser.

England captain Jos Buttler has decided to bat first in the second ODI at Cuttack.
