India’s Test vice-captain KL Rahul is set to miss the upcoming England tour as he will go to Germany for treatment. Rahul is currently on the sidelines with a right groin injury, which has troubled him in the recent past. Rahul’s groin injury has been recurring as he had also missed the series against West Indies and Sri Lanka due to the same injury.
KL Rahul was the second-highest run-getter of IPL 2022 as he amassed 616 runs in 15 matches at an average of 51.33 and a strike rate of 135.38 while leading Lucknow Super Giants.
Rahul had to also miss the ongoing series against South Africa due to the same injury. However, no replacement for announced for him.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul had scored 315 runs in four Test matches against England in 2021 at an average of 39.38 and he had played an instrumental role in India’s 2-1 lead. The flamboyant batter had played a key role in providing good starts to the team along with Rohit Sharma.
“That is correct, the board is working on his fitness and he will be going to Germany soon,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah told Cricbuzz on Thursday.
It has been reported that India will not announce any replacement for Rahul for the tour of England.
Rohit Sharma is going to open the innings and Shubman Gill is expected to be his opening partner. Indian players had left for the UK on Wednesday and will begin their preparation for the rescheduled Test.
The fifth Test match, which was postponed due to Covid-19 cases in the Indian camp in 2021, will take place at Edgbaston from July 1. India will play a four-day warm-up match against Leicestershire from June 24. The tourists will also play three T20Is and as many ODIs against Three Lions.
