Indian batter KL Rahul said he has been told about his batting position for the second Test match against Australia but revealed he can’t share it with the media. Rahul opened with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the opening Test against Australia at Perth in the absence of Rohit Sharma, who missed out due to personal reasons.
The flamboyant batter was under the pump for his poor form but he returned with scores of 26 and 77 in the series opener. Rahul added 201 runs with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the second innings, which is the highest opening stand for India in Australian conditions.
In fact, Rahul didn’t have the rub of the green on his side in the first innings as he was given out controversially by the third umpire despite the lack of evidence.
Rahul scored 27 runs in the warm-up pink ball game against Prime Ministers XI while opening the innings with Jaiswal.
“I’ve been told, but I have also been told not to share it today. So, have to wait for Day 1 or when the captain comes here tomorrow,” KL Rahul said during a press conference in Adelaide.
Rahul said he isn’t bothered about his batting position as long as he is part of the final XI.
“I just want to be in the playing XI, go out there and bat and play for the team. I just go there and try and see what I need to do to get runs in a particular situation. Luckily I have batted in different positions. Early on, when I was asked to bat at different positions, it was a bit of a challenge mentally,” KL Rahul said in the same presser.
Rahul looked solid in the opening Test and he will look to continue the good show. The second Test match between Australia and India, which will be a pink-ball game, will be played at Adelaide Oval from December 6 onwards.
