Former Indian batter Mohammad Kaif has picked India’s playing XI for the fourth Test match against England. Kaif has included four seamers in his team, making two changes in the final XI. The former Indian cricketer has backed Karun Nair at one down despite his low returns thus far in the series. Nair has scored only 131 runs in three Test matches against England.
As Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the series due to a knee injury, Kaif has included Shardul Thakur in his place. Thakur had played the opening Test at Leeds but had failed to deliver the goods.
Furthermore, Kaif wants Anshul Kamboj to make his Test debut at Old Trafford. Kamboj was added to India’s squad after Reddy, Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep were ruled out of the fourth Test.
“I think Prasidh Krishna will be overlooked, and Anshul Kamboj will be given a chance. His debut seems certain, as he’s a quality bowler. He can play the role of Akash Deep, someone who can bowl both inswing and outswing with good control and consistently clock around 130 km/h. So, I believe Kamboj will be handed an opportunity,” Kaif said on his YouTube Channel.
Kaif’s India’s playing XI: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Karun Nair, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Anshul Kamboj.
On the other hand, Indian skipper Shubman Gill hinted that Anshul Kamboj could make his debut.
Gill said in the pre-match presser, “Yes, Anshul is very close to making his debut. We are going to see tomorrow, between him and Prasidh, who’s going to make it to the XI.”
The fourth Test match between England and India will be played at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester, from July 23 onwards.
