Mumbai batter Prithvi Shaw reveals that he gets hurt on India exclusion but wants to perform for state first

Mumbai based batter Prithvi Shaw once again made headlines with his exceptional knock of 379 runs which he scored against Assam in the first innings. Shaw broke several records while he scored that many runs and he was stroking the ball with sheer determination and class. He also became the ninth player in the history of the Ranji Trophy to score 350 plus.

Shaw took over Sanjay Manjrekar’s 377 which he scored during the Ranji Trophy semifinals against Hyderabad back in the 1990-91 season. He became the outright highest scorer for Mumbai in premier domestic level tournaments.

However all these achievements and this knock is futile if Shaw does not manage to break into the Indian team. The young opener has admitted that he was disheartened to be left out of the Indian cricket team.

The Mumbai based batter is now the second highest scorer in the Ranji Trophy just behind Bhausaheb Babasaheb Nimbalkar’s 433 against Saurashtra in the 1948-49 season.

Shaw who spoke to Indian Express following his exceptional knock was not aware of any of the records that he has broken until his sensational innings came to an end. He said,”I wasn’t thinking much that I have to create a record today. When I came back after scoring 240 runs, I left those runs at the ground itself. I just wanted to start fresh from zero.”

“I was blank and was just playing as per merit of the ball. I just went there, took a fresh guard and started on a fresh day. I didn’t know it was a record, I was told inside the dressing room that I hit the second highest score.”

Shaw who last played for India back in July 2021 feels that he do get hurt at times thinking of not being on the Indian team. He has been in sensational form in domestic cricket but his number has not yet come to don the India blue once again. While he does get affected with the situation, he also shared how he cannot control things that are out of his hands.

“Sometimes I do get hurt once you are at peak and don’t get picked. Joh mere hath mein nahi hai uska dukh bana ke kya fyada.( What’s the use of being sad about something you can’t control),” the 23-year-old batter revealed.

“If God decides he will give me another opportunity, I will try to perform for India again. As I said there is no point in thinking too much, at the moment, I want to do well for Mumbai first.”

Shaw has been in tremendous form in domestic cricket ever since he has been ignored from the Indian setup. He has scored 539 runs in eight innings at an average of 67.37 so far this season. He is fourth on the highest scorers list and will be hoping to break more records to get the recognition that he deserves.
