Mumbai tour of Oman: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shams Mulani help tourists level T20 series

A brilliant knock of 75 runs from Mumbai opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal and three wickets from captain Shams Mulani helped the visitors level the T20 series against Oman as they won the second game by 18 runs at OC Turf 1 on Thursday. Oman’s skipper Zeeshan Maqsood won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Mumbai didn’t get off to an ideal start as their opener Aakarshit Gomel was dismissed for a golden duck as he was plumbed by Bilal Khan in the very first over of the innings. Sairaj Patil and Hardik Tamore were also dismissed in quick succession as Mumbai were reduced to 32-3 after 4.2 overs.

However, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Armaan Jaffer added a crucial alliance of 40 runs to get their team back in the contest. Jaiswal showed why he is so much talked about as he completed his fifty off 45 balls as the southpaw batted at the top of his game.

The left-hander scored a fine knock of 75 runs off just 59 balls with the help of eight fours and two maximums. Aman Khan and Sujit Naik added the finishing touches for Mumbai as they 31 runs (15 balls ) and 13 (5 balls) respectively to help Mumbai post a par score of 162 runs.

On the other hand, Aaquib Illyas was the pick of the Oman’s bowlers as he returned with figures of 2-32 in his four overs.

Oman got off to a flying start as Jitendersingh Singh was able to hit the ground running. Singh scored a blistering knock of 51 runs off just 25 and he added 63 runs for the opening alliance with Sohail Khan. However, Oman kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Oman skipper Zeeshan Maqsood who had shone in the opening T20 match, fought hard as he scored 29 runs from 16 balls but didn’t get any support from the rest of the batsmen. Shams Mulani scalped three wickets and conceded only 12 runs in his four overs whereas Sujit Naik snared a brace as Mumbai completed a comprehensive victory over the hosts.

The final T20 of the series will be played on Friday.
