Mumbai Tour of Oman: Zeeshan Maqsood’s all-round performance take hosts to two-wicket win over visitors

Oman won the first T20 against Mumbai by two wickets at the OC Turf 1 on Tuesday. The hosts captain Zeeshan Maqsood won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Mumbai got off to a poor start as Yashasvi Jaiswal was plumbed in front by Kaleemullah Kaleemullah in the second over of the innings. Aman Khan added 13 runs but he was also dismissed by Kaleemullah in the fourth over.

Armaan Jaffer also could not get going as he was bowled by Oman’s captain Zeeshan Maqsood. Mumbai skipper Shams Mulani also could not hit the ground running as he was dismissed after scoring 19 runs.

Opener Akarshit Gomel was the top-scorer for Mumbai as he scored 33 runs from 31 balls but was dismissed by Zeeshan Maqsood.

Mumbai batsmen failed to achieve any kind of impetus in their batting innings as they could only manage 131 runs on the board after the loss of nine wickets.

On the other hand, Mohammed Nadeem was the pick of Oman’s bowlers as he scalped three wickets and conceded only 23 runs in his four overs whereas Kaleemullah Kaleemullah and Zeeshan Maqsood bagged a brace.

Meanwhile, Oman also didn’t get off to a good start as their opener Jitendersingh Singh was dismissed by Mohit Avasthi on the third ball of the innings.

The start got from bad to worse when Aaqib Illyas became Avasthi’s second victim of the day. Sohaib Khan was also dismissed in the final over of the powerplay by Shashank Attarde as the hosts found themselves reeling at 28-3.

However, Zeeshan Maqsood scored a fine fifty off 38 balls but was soon dismissed after getting to the personal landmark. In fact, Oman were struggling to chase down 132 but Neesham Khushi scored a quickfire knock of 39 runs off just 12 balls with the help of five sixes, including three in the penultimate over, to take his team over the line and help them draw first blood in the three-match T20 series.
