PAK vs ENG 2022: We were not good enough to fight back – Babar Azam

Pakistan captain Babar Azam was disappointed after losing the third Test match against England by eight wickets at the National Stadium, Karachi on Tuesday. Azam admitted that they weren’t good enough to fight back with the bat though he feels the bowlers did a good job for the team.

England was able to complete a whitewash and this is the first time when Pakistan has been clean-swept in its home conditions. The visitors were able to chase down 167 runs in the second innings after Ben Duckett and Ben Stokes scored 82 and 35 runs respectively.

Meanwhile, Pakistan could only manage 216 runs in the second essay and it led to their downfall in the Test match. England once again came up with a collective show as they were at their best with both bat and ball.

Babar Azam said in the post-match presentation, “Disappointing as a team. We were not good enough to fight back but, credit to England they played really well. First innings we lost back to back wickets, we were good in patches but not good for longer periods and that cost us. Our bowlers fought back very well, but unfortunately that wasn’t good enough. Lot of positives in the series and we will carry that to the next series and we will also discuss where we fell short and correct that.”

On the other hand, Harry Brook was the star of the show for England. The youngster scored 111 runs in the first innings to help the tourists take the lead of 50 runs.

Brook amassed 468 runs in three Test matches at an average of 93.60 and a strike rate of 93.41. The young lad scored one fifty and two centuries and he also went past David Gower (449 runs in 1983) to become the top run-getter in a Test series in Pakistan. Thus, Brook was awarded the Player of the Series as well as Player of the Match for the third Test.

He said after the game, “Probably been my best tour so far, no one has ever done it before (3-0 whitewash) so it’s a phenomenal tour. Was annoyed when I got out to Abrar in the second Test and wanted to approach him in a different way. We were trying to win it last night and just moved the order a bit and sent the boys out there for some fun.”

Pakistan will now host New Zealand in two-match Test series.
