India’s former batting coach Sanjay Bangar has opined that Prasidh Krishna has been considered a very good bowler for a long time. Bangar recalls that there were discussions in the Indian dressing room regarding Krishna’s performance when he was the batting coach of the team.
Krishna scalped 14 wickets in seven matches at an average of 22.21 and bowled at the top of his game in the Vijay Hazare trophy and also conceded his runs at an economy rate of 5.44. Thus, he was able to earn his maiden ODI call-up into the national squad for the three-match series against England.
Krishna also has the experience of playing in the Indian Premier League as he has done a decent job for the Kolkata Knight Riders. The right-arm fast bowler from Karnataka has scalped 18 wickets in the 24 matches he has played in the IPL.
Krishna has snared 81 wickets in the 48 List A matches at an impressive average of 23.07. The 25-year old lad has taken 33 wickets in 40 T20s in his young domestic career.
“Prasidh Krishna has been considered a very good bowler in the shorter formats for a long time. When I was with the team, there used to be discussions about him as a good option,” said Bangar while talking to Star Sports show Cricket Connected.
Bangar feels Krishna’s experience of playing in the IPL will help him at the top level.
“His biggest specialty is that he has played 24-25 IPL matches. So he knows very well how to understand the situation and bowl according to the field settings. He has a sound head and can make good decisions,” added Bangar.
The former Indian all-rounder added that Prasidh Krishna can be a good addition to India’s potent bowling bench strength. India has developed an army of fast bowlers and the healthy competition is pushing everyone to give their best.
Krishna can get his opportunity to make his ODI debut and it would be interesting to note how he will handle the pressure. The Indian skipper Virat Kohli has stated that he wants to throw opportunities for the young players and see how they perform at the top level. In fact, Kohli had once mentioned Krishna is a very smart bowler and they are keeping a close eye on him.
The first ODI will take place on 23rd March at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.
