Quetta Gladiators opener Jason Roy made a rollicking start to his Pakistan Super League 2022 as he scored 116 runs off just 57 balls against Lahore Qalandars in the 15th match of the tournament on Monday.
Thus, Roy’s knock helped his team beat the opposition by seven wickets at the National Stadium, Karachi.
Lahore Qalandars posted a par score of 204 runs in their 20 overs after Fakhar Zaman scored a fine knock of 70 runs to continue his rich form.
However, Quetta Gladiators were able to come up with a fine response. Roy and Ahsan Ali added 71 runs in the first 5.2 overs with the latter scoring only seven runs. Subsequently, Roy added 96 runs with his English teammate, James Vince, who scored 49 runs off 38 balls.
Thus, the duo was able to get their team close to the target. Roy was just magnificent in his knock as he scored 11 fours and eight sixes in his blistering innings and scored his runs at a strike rate of more than 200.
Jason Roy was awarded the Player of the match for his sublime century. Roy said in the post-match presentation, “I have been extremely jet-lagged. It has been a long time since my last T20 hundred. To string a partnership like that with James was special. It is always important to take momentum ahead in the later stages of the tournament”.
On the other hand, Sir Vivian Richards, who recently joined Quetta Gladiators as a mentor and batting coach added that they had the belief to chase down the target.
He said after the game, “It was a highly competitive game. It just raises the resume of the PSL. Jason was just fantastic. This is one of the best attacks in the PSL. To get over the line, it was fantastic. We thought at the break if they got it, we can too”.
Quetta Gladiators will next face Islamabad United on Wednesday.
