Karachi Kings captain Babar Azam admitted that they didn’t bowl in the right areas against Islamabad United in the 21st match of Pakistan Super League at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on Monday.
Babar Azam won the toss and decided to bowl first but Islamabad United posted a par score of 191 runs.
Karachi Kings bowled well in the first 11 overs as they scalped four wickets and conceded 87 runs. However, Asif Ali and Faheem Ashraf played blistering knocks in the death overs to help their team post a par score.
Karachi Kings bowlers could not hit the right areas as they veered off the track. In fact, Islamabad United was 137-6 after 15.4 overs but they were able to score more than 50 runs in the last four overs.
Umaid Asif took a beating from Islamabad United batters as he conceded 49 runs in his quota of four overs. Furthermore, Chris Jordan was taken for 39 runs in his allotted four overs.
In fact, Karachi Kings needed two runs off the last two balls but they lost two wickets on the final two balls. Babar Azam was happy that the team fought till the end but they were not able to get over the line as they lost by one run.
Babar Azam said in the post-match presentation, “The way the team fought, felt good. Mindset is always positive in every match. Have to play according to the situation. The first 10 overs we utilized well but then didn’t bowl in our areas to concede 190. Their partnership brought us back in the game. Qasim came straight from the U19, played superbly”.
Meanwhile, this was the Karachi Kings’ seventh loss of the season and they still remain winless in the tournament. Thus, they are all but knocked out of PSL 2022. Babar Azam-led team will next face defending champions Multan Sultans on Wednesday.
