India lost a close Super 12 encounter to South Africa a few days back. After electing to bat first, India lost early wickets before Suryakumar Yadav’s magical knock propelled them to 133/9. South Africa also lost three early wickets during their chase but David Miller (59*) and Aiden Markram (52) weathered the storm to guide the Proteas home with two balls to spare.
Former India pacer Zaheer Khan shared his views on that loss and he wasn’t happy at all with the way Rohit Sharma led the team in that match.
“You got the game to that level from where you got to just finish it,” Zaheer Khan said in a video on Cricbuzz.
“So, I am disappointed with that. Rest of the things (are) fine. You know what you did. Leading up to that didn’t matter, you made the game out of it. And from there, you let South Africa come in the play and they went on to win the match. That is something that you need to look into. It is about confidence in certain bowlers.
“It felt like that to a certain degree that Rohit was maybe not able to use his resources or he’s kind of stuck with using a particular bowler in a particular position. Arshdeep could have bowled three overs at the top, but he (Rohit) felt that who is going to take care of the backend. There are certain factors which are still not comfortable,” he added.
India have played three matches in the T20 World Cup so far, winning two and losing one. They are sitting in second place in Group 2 at present and are tied on points with Bangladesh, who are sitting in second place. But Rohit Sharma’s men have a far superior and healthy NRR and that gives them an advantage going into the crucial clash against the Tigers on Wednesday.
