Rohit Sharma has gone a notch higher as a batsman: Sachin Tendulkar

Indian great Sachin Tendulkar has showered praise on opening batsman Rohit Sharma. The Indian opener has shown the other side of his temperament as he is ready to put the hard yards in.

Rohit has shown all the patience while opening the innings in tough English conditions.

The flamboyant batsman has left the ball with aplomb and has defended successfully in the English conditions. Rohit has done the hard work in the initial stage of his innings and he has been able to reap the rewards.

In fact, Rohit has shown the other side of his batting as he is mostly known to hit the ground running but he has played like a proper opening batsman, who tries to negate the new ball in the difficult conditions.

Rohit was getting off to starts but wasn’t able to convert them into substantial scores. However, Rohit scored a fine knock of 83 runs in the first innings of the Lord’s Test match and added 126 runs with KL Rahul to provide a perfect foundation for the team. India was able to post 364 runs and the opening alliance played a key role for the visitors.

Sachin Tendulkar said while talking to PTI, “Whatever I have seen, I feel, he has taken the lead and he has shown the other side of his temperament and how he can change his game and adapt to the situation and play accordingly. He has been a leader there and KL has supported him brilliantly.

“As far as playing pull shot is concerned, he has cleared the fence with that shot and I am looking at what he has been able to achieve for the team in both Tests. Rohit has left the ball and defended the ball brilliantly or equally well. He was always a fantastic player but seeing his last few innings in England, I can say he has definitely gone a notch higher.”

On the other hand, India’s fast bowling unit is one of the best in the world. Indian fast bowlers have delivered in all the conditions and they have breathed down the neck of the opposition with their accuracy.

“Today this bowling attack is the best in the world. It’s a reflection of talent, discipline and ability to work hard on fitness and wanting to learn more. I don’t like comparisons across eras because bowling attacks should also be judged by batters who are batting against them. Be it during Kapil’s or Srinath’s or Zaheer’s generation, there were different batsmen facing them,” he said.
