Former Indian fast bowler Sreesanth feels Virat Kohli will be India’s X-factor during the upcoming Test series against South Africa. Kohli has all the experience under his belt and he is going to hold the key for the visitors on difficult South African pitches.
Kohli has amassed 719 runs in seven Test matches at an impressive average of 51.35 while playing in the South African conditions. Thus, the veteran batter will hold the key for the visitors against the Proteas.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli is in prolific form as he finished the ODI World Cup 2023 as the highest run-getter with 765 runs in 11 matches at an average of 95.62 and a strike rate of 90.32. Ergo, he was awarded Player of the Tournament for his consistent performances.
“Virat loves to keep proving, rather than to anybody but to himself. I think he’s that cricketer who actually plays with that pride and he takes that pride in a very good way, not in an egoistic way. So pride for me, and for Virat also I’m sure it’s like personal responsibility in delivering excellence. So, I will go with Virat and KL Rahul,” said Sreesanth while speaking to Firstpost.
Meanwhile, India is yet to win their maiden Test series on South African soil and Sreesanth feels it will be a great opportunity for the Rohit Sharma-led team to create history.
“I think this is the best opportunity. Since the time South Africa came back into the international scene, this time we do have a great opportunity and a great chance to win a series there which is like a dream come true.
“I would love to see India winning the Test series. It will be like winning the World Cup because winning against South Africa in South Africa is not going to be easy but as the ad says, ‘Mazaa ayeega’,” said Sreesanth.
The first Test match between India and South Africa will be played at SuperSport Park, Centurion from December 26th.
