SA20 2023: It was an embarrassing loss – Theunis de Bruyn after 151-run defeat against Durban Super Giants

Pretoria Capitals stand-in skipper Theunis de Bruyn admitted it was an embarrassing loss after they were obliterated by 151 runs by Durban Super Giants in the 28th match of the ongoing SA20 at the SuperSport Park, Centurion on Sunday.

DSG posted a massive total of 254-4 after Theunis de Bruyn won the toss and elected to bowl first. Heinrich Klaasen continued his good form as he smashed an unbeaten knock of 104 runs off just 44 balls with the help of 10 fours and half-a-dozen sixes.

On the other hand, Pretoria Capitals were skittled out for a paltry score of 103 runs as no batter could go past the 25-run mark. Junior Dala was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped three wickets and conceded 33 runs in his quota of four overs.

Theunis de Bruyn said in the post-match presentation, “We didn’t do well today. One team that had nothing to lose and the other team didn’t arrive. Hopefully, we bounce back on Tuesday. It was an embarrassing loss and let’s write that off. It is difficult to motivate each other when you probably know you are going to finish first in the table.”

Meanwhile, Quinton de Kock was delighted with the team’s effort and showered praise on Junior Dala for his superb spell.

He said after the game, “Setting a total like that doesn’t happen always. I am so happy for the success of some of the boys in the team. Once there was rhythm, we kept going with it. All the guys who came in kept doing it even sometimes it meant sacrificing their wicket. (On Junior Dala) He has been hungry to play, he has been working hard off the field and he bowled very well for us tonight. We need Pretoria to do us a favour, we need them to do what we did to them tonight.”

Heinrich Klaasen was awarded the Player of the Match for his brilliant knock and he was happy to deliver the goods for the team.

He said, “This is my favorite place to play cricket and I am very pleased that it came off tonight. The openers said it is a good wicket. I have played a lot of cricket here and I played good cricket shots. After you get in here, it is one of the best wickets to bat on. Not to premeditate a lot and play normal cricket shots. Hopefully, we get through otherwise it won’t mean a lot.”

Pretoria Capitals will face Paarl Royals on Tuesday on SuperSport Park, Centurion.
