Bengaluru FC captain Sunil Chhetri has showered praise on the club’s new signing. Talismanic defender Sandesh Jhingan rejoined the Blues on a permanent deal after five years. Chhetri stated that Sandesh Jhingan is a leader and someone who has the hunger to always win.
Jhingan has a lot of experience under his belt and he is definitely going to add value to Bengaluru FC’s defense. In fact, Chhetri and Jhingan have played together for the Blue Tigers and know each other from close quarters.
Jhinghan made his Hero ISL debut for Kerala Blasters in 2014 and he was able to impress one and all with his defensive skills. Thus, the lanky player from Chandigarh was awarded the Emerging Player of the Season in the tournament’s maiden edition.
Jhingan made 30 clearances, 25 tackles, 14 interceptions, and 13 blocks along with a passing accuracy of 86% in nine matches he played in the previous season for ATK Mohun.
Sunil Chhetri said in the press conference, “I am very fond of him. You look at his career graph, wherever and whichever team he has played at, he has always been instrumental. I have also had the luxury of playing with him in the national team. So it’s always great to have a top player. What Sandesh also adds is that he’s a leader and someone who also wants to win.”
Chhetri revealed that Jhingan will give his 120% to the club and he is going to add a lot of value.
“I wish him all the very best and assure him that we’re going to give him all the support that he needs and I know he’s also going to give his all for the club.”
The team’s head coach Simon Grayson also opened on Bengaluru FC’s signing.
“It [signing Sandesh Jhingan] was something that we had been talking about for the last 7-10 days. When I spoke to Sunil and other players who knew him very well, they were complimentary about his all-round footballing skills.
Bengaluru FC will begin their Durand Cup 2022 campaign against Jamshedpur FC on 17th August in Kolkata.
