Former Indian captain Shubman Gill has rated the Old Trafford century as the most pleasing in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar series against England. This was Gill’s fourth century of the series and it helped the visitors get a draw.
Gill scored a match-saving knock of 103 runs off 238 balls and the Indian captain also added a crucial alliance of 188 runs with KL Rahul after India were left reeling at 0-2. The visitors had conceded a massive lead of 311 runs against the home team and thus had their backs against the wall.
Gill continued his rich form in the series after three quiet innings and he has amassed 722 runs in four Test matches at an average of 90.25 in the ongoing series.
“I think this inning of mine was the most pleasing to me,” said Gill while talking to BCCI.
India was able to bat 143 overs in the second innings to get a draw and Gill admitted it was challenging for them.
“To be able to have that same mindset for 140 overs is very difficult, and that is what differentiates a good team from a great team, and I think we showed that today, that is why we are a great team,” Gill told the BCCI TV.
“Zero for two and then the partnership between me and KL bhai, I think that’s what ignited the belief that yes, we can achieve this task. Extremely, extremely happy. To be able to get a draw from the position that we were in yesterday is extremely satisfying,” he added.
Gill has been batting like a dream, and KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar also played crucial knocks for the tourists.
The fifth and final Test match between England and India will be played at the Kennington Oval, London, from 31st July onwards.
