India’s off-spinner Washington Sundar has revealed that newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir has given him a lot of input. Sundar said Gambhir was a quality player of spin during his heydays and has passed on his experience to the team.
India lost the second ODI against Sri Lanka by 32 runs after they were bowled out for 208. The Indian middle order hasn’t been able to deliver the goods despite a good start from openers in the first two games. Ergo, India will need to pull up their socks in the third ODI against the home team.
Washington Sundar said as quoted by PTI, “There has been a lot of input from him. He is a high-quality player of spin. We have always seen him putting up great performance, especially in such wickets against quality spin.”
“That is one of the reasons we came out here today to practice and try and find a way and try and do those small little changes tactically and be prepared and ready for tomorrow’s game and be really on top of our game in all aspects,” Sundar added.
Meanwhile, Washington Sundar has scalped four wickets in two matches of the ongoing series at an average of 19 and an impressive economy rate of 4.
Speaking on his performance, Sundar said, “I am someone who works hard and tries to find ways to be successful and to be an asset to the team. That way when I was thinking about my bowling, I had to do certain things, slightly different, not huge changes, but just to add a couple of more things and do certain things more often and more efficiently.”
On the other hand, Sundar has managed only 20 runs in two matches and admitted it is imperative for him to do well with the bat.
“I am someone who works hard and tries to find ways to be successful and to be an asset to the team. That way when I was thinking about my bowling, I had to do certain things, slightly different, not huge changes, but just to add a couple of more things and do certain things more often and more efficiently,” the off-spinner stated.
The third ODI between India and Sri Lanka will be played at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Wednesday.
