India’s rising star Arshdeep Singh was backed to bowl the final over against Bangladesh when the Tigers needed 20 runs to win. Singh bowled a bumper on the second ball and he was smashed for a six by Nurul Hasan, which put him under pressure.
Singh admitted that he should have backed his yorker. The youngster thought Hasan could have scooped him with the third man and fine leg in the circle and thus he bowled a bouncer. However, the strategy backfired and thus Singh decided to back his strength, which is to bowl yorkers.
In the end, Singh conceded 14 runs and India went on to win by five runs to inch closer to the semifinals.
“Bowling mein normally yorker ko back karna tha mujhe. Starting mein laga ki scoop khel sakte hai toh bouncer mardiya lekin kafi kuch idea nahi tha uske bad yehi tha ki yorker ko back kardu (I should have backed my yorker but I felt the batter will scoop me so I bowled the bouncer to him. It wasn’t a good idea but from there on I stuck to the yorker),” Arshdeep said while talking to Yuzvendra Chahal on BCCI.
Arshdeep Singh has taken nine wickets in four matches and he is India’s leading wicket-taker in the ongoing World Cup.
On the other hand, Indian opener KL Rahul was able to get back to form as he scored a fine knock of 50 runs off 32 balls to give a good start to his team. Rahul had managed three single-digit scores before coming back to form.
Rahul said on his knock, “Mein isi cheez pe focus kar raha thi aage kya karu. Jo teen matches ho gaye hai, maine mistakes kiya unme se mera kya learning tha. Ye ek do boundary lag jate toh woh flow aa jata hai (I was focussing on what to do in the next game and to not mull over what has happened but take the learnings from what I did wrong in the last three games. When you hit a few boundaries you get your flow back).”
“All the negative thoughts and doubts you have in your mind will go away,” the 30-year-old added.
India will next take on Zimbabwe in their last match of the Super 12 stage at the MCG on Sunday.
