Former Indian legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar feels Mohammed Shami seems a good replacement for Jasprit Bumrah. Shami recently joined the Indian squad in Australia for the World Cup after recovering from Covid-19.
The fast bowler was named in the squad for the home series against Australia and South Africa but he was ruled out after testing positive for Covid-19.
Earlier, Shami was named in the standby players but he was added to the main squad to replace injured Jasprit Bumrah, who missed the flight to Australia due to a back injury.
Shami played in the warm-up match against Australia at the Gabba, Brisbane on Monday and scalped three wickets in the one over he bowled. He conceded only four runs and was successfully able to defend 11 runs.
“Bumrah not being there is a big loss and we obviously needed a strike bowler. An out-and-out genuine fast bowler, who could attack batters and get wickets. Shami has proven that and he seems a good replacement,” Tendulkar told PTI in an exclusive interview.
On the other hand, the Master Blaster is also impressed by Arshdeep Singh, who has impressed with his ability to bowl accurately in the crunch situations of the match.
“Arshdeep has shown a lot of promise and he looks a balanced guy. And whatever I have seen of him, he looks a committed fellow because you can see a player, you can make out looking at his mindset,” the legendary batter said.
Sachin went on to add that the most impressive thing about Arshdeep Singh is the fact he sticks to his strengths and bowls according to his plan as well as the field.
“What I really like is that if Arshdeep has a plan, he commits to it and that is really, really important in this format as batters are going out and playing those extra shots and some innovative ones. So if you have a plan, commit to it,” Tendulkar said.
India hasn’t been at their best with the ball and both Shami and Arshdeep will hold the key for the team in the T20 World Cup.
