T20 World Cup 2022: Rohit Sharma has a sense of calm when everything around him is going on at a million miles an hour – Jos Buttler

England captain Jos Buttler believes Rohit Sharma has a sense of calm when everything around him is going on at a million miles an hour. Rohit might not be at his best with the bat in the ongoing T20 World Cup but he has done a fine job as a leader of the team.

Rohit is known to keep his calm in tense situations of the game and he gets the best out of his players. Rohit has savored great success while leading Mumbai Indians in the IPL as he has led the franchise to five titles and he has done a great job since taking over the baton from Virat Kohli.

The Indian captain is mostly spot-on with his bowling and field changes. Furthermore, Rohit hardly hits the panic button in the crunch situations of the game, which is key to success in the T20I format.

“They are a brilliant team and Rohit Sharma is a brilliant captain who I think has asked them to play more positively and with more freedom. I was a bit young in my IPL journey, but tactically I thought he was very good, making good decisions but not always the obvious ones,” Buttler told Sunday Times.

“He has that sense of calm when everything around him is going on at a million miles an hour. A bit like when he bats, he makes it look pretty effortless,” he added.

Meanwhile, Jos Buttler was dismissed via run-out at the non-striker’s end by Ravichandran Ashwin in IPL 2019. Buttler feels everyone has a different view on the dismissal and he showered praise on the Indian spinner for being a deep thinker of the game.

“We all have different views on that mode of dismissal. But it is certainly something he sees very much as a fair game. So we’ve got to make sure we don’t get out like that and it’s the batters’ responsibility. It can’t happen if we’re in the crease. Obviously, he’s a fantastic player, skillful, really inquisitive guy, a fierce competitor, and a deep thinker about the game,” he added.

Buttler scored a crucial knock of 73 runs off 47 balls against New Zealand, which was a must-win game for his team. The England captain is going to hold the key for his team at the top of the order along with Alex Hales.

England will take on India in the semifinal on Thursday at Adelaide Oval.
