Former Indian wicket-keeper bat Dinesh Karthik hailed Jasprit Bumrah after his outstanding performance in the T20 World Cup. Bumrah bowled a magical spell of 2-18 in the all-important final against South Africa as India were able to defend the target of 177, registering a thrilling seven-run win. The fast bowler accounted for Reeza Hendricks and Marco Jansen.
The gun fast bowler was at his absolute best throughout the World Cup and delivered at both ends of the innings. Bumrah bagged 15 wickets at an average of 8.26 and an economy rate of 4.17 in the eight matches of the T20I showpiece.
Bumrah returned with figures of 2-6 in the opening game against Ireland and then bowled a match-winning spell of 3-14 against arch-rivals Pakistan. The ace pacer picked 2-12 in the semifinal against England.
Karthik tipped Bumrah as the greatest all-format bowler at the moment in world cricket.
“When I was on air, I said he is more valuable than a Kohinoor diamond. Genuinely, he is the greatest all-format bowler at the moment in world cricket. Under pressure to come and keep performing time and time again, not many can do that,” Karthik said on Cricbuzz.
“He’s a captain’s dream—someone who wins at any stage, any play of the match—that’s what makes him so special. Brilliant, fantabulous—that’s the word for him,” he added.
Bumrah has been ticking the right boxes and he was magnificent for India throughout their World Cup campaign. The Indian pack leader is known to quickly read the conditions and bowls accordingly to get the best out of him.
Bumrah has picked 89 wickets in 70 T20I matches at an average of 17.74 and a brilliant economy rate of 6.28.
