The Board of Control for Cricket in India president Sourav Ganguly has stated that the selectors call to name no replacement for Shubman Gill. It was reported that the team management had requested the selectors to send Devdutt Padikkal and Prithvi Shaw, who both are currently on the tour of Sri Lanka, to England as replacement for injured Gill.
On the other hand, it is also reported that Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma will open the innings for the team in the Test series against England. India also has players like KL Rahul and Hanuma Vihari, who can also open the innings with Rohit Sharma, as he is the first-choice opener of the team.
Furthermore, India has Abhimanyu Easwaran as a standby player on the tour of England and he can be added to the main team if there is a need for an opening batsman.
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill has been ruled out with shin splints and he may take three months to recover from his injury.
Ganguly, while addressing reporters on his 49th birthday on Thursday, said: “That’s selectors’ call.”
The second leg of IPL 2021 will now take place in the UAE after the tournament was indefinitely postponed due to Covid-19 cases in the bubble.
“Nothing will happen, we will manage. It will start in September. We will chalk out the nitty-gritties,” he told reporters here.
Meanwhile, the T20 World Cup was originally scheduled to take place in India but it has been shifted to UAE due to Covid-19 pandemic situation in the country. Ganguly added that there will be some regret of not hosting the tournament in India.
“There will be regret but no one has witnessed such a situation in their entire lifetime. These are exceptional circumstances. “Last year the World Cup got cancelled and this year if again the World Cup gets cancelled because of COVID, then it’s a massive loss for the game. That’s why we have taken it into a safer place,” he said.
