The last few years have been tough for Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav. Not only does he find himself on the fringes of the Indian cricket team following a horrid period of form, he has also suffered in domestic cricket as well as the IPL. He barely finds himself on the field with his side Kolkata Knight Riders and the once-important chinaman bowler hasn’t played a single game of IPL 2021 this year.
Speaking to Aakash Chopra on his YouTube channel, Kuldeep stressed that the communication between him and the team management hasn’t been particularly strong. He also said that the management didn’t even bother to update him about his place in the starting XI in recent seasons.
“If the coaches have worked with you before and are with you for a prolonged period of time, they understand you better. But it becomes very difficult when the communication is weak. Sometimes you don’t even know that whether you will be playing or not, or what the team expects from you,” Kuldeep Yadav said.
“Sometimes you feel that you are deserving to play, can win matches for the team, but you don’t know the reason why you are not playing. The management comes for 2 months with their plans, so that makes it difficult.”
The mystery spinner also chalked out the difference in style of management with the Indian team. Despite being on the sidelines with the Indian team, Kuldeep said that there’s constant communication with the management who tell the players what they expect from them. However, that isn’t the case at Kolkata Knight Riders.
Kuldeep is yet to play a match in IPL 2021. He played five matches for KKR last season and took part in nine games for the franchise in IPL 2019. However, his form was disastrous in both those seasons.
In the Indian team they talk to you when you are not selected, but it does not happen in the IPL. I remember that I had spoken to the franchise before the IPL but in the matches that happened in the middle, nobody gave me an explanation. I was a bit shocked. I felt like there was no trust, like they had no faith in my skill. This happens when the team has many options. KKR now has plenty of spin bowling options,” the Chinaman added.
