Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer feels Ajinkya Rahane is a different player when he plays attacking and positive cricket. Rahane was the biggest positive for India in the World Test Championship final against Australia, which the Aussies won by a massive margin of 209 runs.
India was struggling at 151-5 at the end of the second day’s play when Rahane scored a fine knock of 89 runs to help his team make some sort of a comeback. The right-hander added 109 runs with Shardul Thakur, who scored a fine knock of 51 runs.
Furthermore, Rahane scored a decent knock of 46 runs in the second innings in the run-chase of 444 runs but India was skittled out for 234 runs. Rahane had delivered while playing in the domestic circuit and also scored 326 runs in 11 innings for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023 and h.
Wasim Jaffer said while talking to Sportskeeda, “The way he batted in both innings and absorbed the pressure. India was under pressure in both innings when he walked out to bat. India was chasing a big score in the first innings and it was the same story in the second innings. He has shown that he can absorb that pressure.”
“When Ajinkya Rahane plays attacking and positive cricket, he is a different player. I just hope he plays and he stays consistent from here on,” Jaffer added.
Rahane will be looking to continue the good show in the upcoming matches and he has certainly done enough to get his place back in the Test team.
The veteran right-hander was able to prove his mettle and he was the best Indian batter in the WTC final as he delivered in both innings.
India will next tour West Indies for two Test matches, three ODIs and five T20Is.
