WI vs IND 2022: Virat Kohli should have played at least ODIs or T20Is against West Indies – Aakash Chopra

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra reckons talisman batter Virat Kohli should have played at least ODIs and T20Is against the West Indies. Kohli was rested for the West Indies tour after participating in the series against England.

Furthermore, Kohli has been rested for Zimbabwe ODIs. In fact, Kohli hasn’t been in the best of forms in the recent past and the pressure is increasing on him to deliver the goods. Many cricket experts believe that Kohli should take a long break from the game.

After playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, Kohli was rested for the series against South Africa and Ireland and then played against England. The former Indian captain recently enjoyed a vacation to Europe with his wife, Anushka Sharma.

The right-hander is now expected to return to action for the Asia Cup and he will be expected to hit the ground running. There are always lofty expectations from Virat Kohli but unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to stand tall to them in the last couple of years.

“The problem is that you need to remind people of Virat’s numbers. This is because he has played very little and missed more games of late. Even Rohit and Suryakumar won’t score in every game. But since they play continuously, we remember the good knocks that they played. Virat walks into the team no doubt, but he should have played at least the ODIs or T20Is against the West Indies,” said Chopra while talking on Jatin Sapru’s YouTube Channel.

On the other hand, the renowned commentator Aakash Chopra doesn’t understand the ploy of moving Suryakumar Yadav to the top of the order. Chopra feels the right-hander is better off playing in the middle order as he has the understanding of that role.

“I don’t understand the thinking behind sending him at the top. Batting in the middle order is a bit difficult and he is also in form, so he has an understanding of that role. In T20Is and Tests, I feel positions are very important. Why don’t you send DK or Hardik at the top? Because they have a specified role, right? Then why not the same for Suryakumar Yadav?,” said Chopra.

Suryakumar Yadav had scored a fine knock of 76 runs off just 43 balls in the third T20I against the West Indies while opening the innings.

The fifth match between India and West Indies will be played in Florida on Sunday.
