Legendary Indian spinner Anil Kumble reckons Kuldeep Yadav should be there in the Indian Test squad alongside Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. While Kuldeep has been added to India’s limited-overs squad for the tour of the West Indies, he could not break into the Test team.
Axar Patel is the third spinner after Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja for the two-match Test series against the Windies. In fact, Kuldeep has impressed in his young Test career, scalping 34 wickets in eight Test matches at an average of 21.56.
The left-arm wrist spinner played his last Test match for India against Bangladesh in 2022. In that Test match, the left-arm spinner took a total of eight wickets but didn’t play in the Border-Gavaskar series against Australia.
“Kuldeep should definitely be there as he is a very good bowler. Leg-spinners are very attacking bowlers. They concede runs as well but you need to take a leg-spinner along with you and groom him. Whenever you get a chance, he should be given an opportunity,” Kumble said while speaking on JioCinema.
In fact, Kuldeep has grabbed his chance with both hands whenever he has got an opportunity to play for the national team. Kumble reckons a wrist spinner should be included in the Test team.
“Kuldeep is a very good spinner for Test matches. He has given very good performances whenever he has got a chance as well. There are a lot of wrist spinners in white-ball formats. We are not getting to see them much in Test matches,” Kumble added.
Meanwhile, India won the first Test match by a mammoth margin of an innings and 141 runs against the West Indies at Dominica to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took a total of 17 wickets in the game as they once again showed their class.
The second Test match will be played from 20th July at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad.
