WI vs IND: Virat Kohli is not a part of ‘Fab 4’, it’s ‘Fab 3’ now, says Aakash Chopra

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra reckons Virat Kohli is no longer part of the Fab 4 and it is now Fab 3. Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and Joe Root are considered to be part of the Fab 4 but Chopra feels the Indian doesn’t belong to the same category. While Smith, Williamson, and Root have performed consistently for their respective teams, Kohli has failed to deliver in the last few years in Test matches.

Kohli has gone through a lull period in the last couple of years and has failed to live up to the lofty expectations. In the last 25 Test matches, Kohli has amassed 1277 runs at an average of 29.69. Furthermore, Kohli’s overall Test average has also gone down below 50.

Smith has the best average among the elite group as he is averaging 58.95 after 100 Test matches. Williamson has an impressive average of 54.89 whereas Root has an average of 50.29.

“Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Steve Smith and Kane Williamson were a sure shot ‘Fab Four’ at one point. In fact, even David Warner’s name was present in that list. We are talking about Test cricket. We are talking about the period between 2014 and 2019. But we don’t have a ‘Fab Four’ now, only a ‘Fab Three’,” said Chopra on his YouTube Channel.

“Virat Kohli’s numbers have plummeted. He has played 25 matches – 1277 runs, which does not suit him. He has an average of 29.69 and he has scored just one century overall, which came against Australia on the Ahmedabad ground,” Chopra added.

On the other hand, the renowned commentator reckons David Warner is also not part of the Fab 4 as he has scored 1250 runs in the last 23 Test matches.

“David Warner – 23 matches, 1250 runs, an average of 32.89. He has two centuries in that, including a big one. I feel at this point in time, as things stand now, Warner and Kohli are not part of the ‘Fab Four’,” said Chopra.

Virat Kohli will look to improve his Test numbers in the upcoming two-match series against the West Indies, all set to begin on July 12.
