Australian opener David Warner was under the pump for his form before the start of the World Cup. Warner could not deliver in the first two matches against India and South Africa but he has been able to turn the tables.
Warner, who scored 647 runs in the 2019 World Cup, is currently the second-highest run-getter in the ongoing ODI showpiece. The pugnacious left-hander has scored 413 runs in six matches at an average of 68.83 and a strike rate of 112.53 in the ongoing World Cup, including two centuries.
Warner scored a fine knock of 163 runs off just 124 balls against Pakistan. Furthermore, the southpaw scored 104 runs against the Netherlands and followed it with another impressive knock of 81 runs against New Zealand in the last game.
“Everyone keeps writing me off. I am doing as well as I can, I am just trying to go out there and start as well as I can up front in the first 10 (overs). If I get in, I try and make the most of it,” Warner said, as quoted by cricket.com.au.
“It is also awesome to have Heady and Mitch there as well, because it allows that pressure to keep being put back onto the opposition.”
When asked if he was getting extra motivation to prove his critics wrong, Warner added: “Nup. I just make everyone look stupid.”
Meanwhile, Travis Head was able to hit the ground running after recuperating from a hand injury. Head scored a brilliant knock of 109 runs against New Zealand and Warner said it is good to have him back at the top of the order.
“It doesn’t matter whether it’s him or Mitch, they’re both exactly the same player, but it’s good to see Heady come out and fire,” he added.
After losing their first two matches, the five-time champions have won four matches on the bounce. Australia will take on arch-rivals England in their next match in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
