World Cup 2023: It’s important that you keep everyone in good mental space – Rohit Sharma on getting best out of his players

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma feels it is important to keep everyone in good mental space in order to get the best out of his players. India has got off to a perfect start in the ongoing World Cup 2023 as they have won all of their five matches and they are at the top of the points table.

Rohit Sharma has played a key role in the team’s success as he has been leading from the front. The talisman has scored 311 runs in five matches at an average of 62.20 and a blistering strike rate of 133.48. Rohit has adopted an aggressive approach and he has been giving quick starts to his team.

Rohit said he tries to put himself in his player’s shoes and tries to support them. The Indian skipper has all the leadership experience as he has led with great success in the Indian Premier League, taking Mumbai Indians to five championships.

Speaking to Star Sports, Rohit Sharma said, “I try and put myself in their shoes and think about what this individual will be needing now. So, it’s important to think like that. So, yeah that is something that I wouldn’t say comes naturally to me, I’ve learned it over the years, gone through my personal experiences and understood what is needed for a team to be successful.”

He further added: “We do understand as well that when you want to win championships, big tournaments, everyone needs to come to the party and play their part. So, it’s important that you keep everyone in good mental space. So, it’s very important to hear everyone out, understand what they want, how they want to operate.”

Rohit added that every player should have the clarity of their respective roles and it is important for the whole team to come up with a collective show in pressure situations.

“I think what is needed to be successful is to understand everyone’s need, their requirement and give them that space and freedom to go and execute their job and their roles. It can be quite daunting at times because when you are playing such a high-profile tournament, the pressure can get to you at times.”

India will next take on reigning champions England at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Sunday.
