Wriddhiman Saha Returns to Bengal, Ready to Play Across All Formats

Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha has made a significant return to Bengal cricket, expressing his enthusiasm and readiness to contribute across all formats in the upcoming domestic season. After two seasons with Tripura, Saha is back in his home state, where he aims to bolster Bengal’s cricket team with his experience and skills.

In a press meet held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Monday, August 12, Saha shared his excitement about rejoining Bengal. “I am happy and excited to be back in Bengal. I am looking forward to playing and giving my best for the state. As of now, my plan is to play in all three formats for Bengal, and it will depend on how things go ahead in the season,” Saha stated.

Saha’s return was warmly welcomed by Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) officials, including president Snehasish Ganguly and secretary Naresh Ojha. Ganguly expressed optimism about Saha’s impact on the team, stating, “It is a matter of great joy to welcome Wriddhi back in Bengal. He has served us a lot in the past. I hope his return will strengthen the team, and Bengal will aim for a better performance in the upcoming season. I wish Wriddi the very best for the forthcoming season.”

Saha’s return to Bengal brings experience and leadership to a team that is seeking to blend youthful talent with seasoned expertise. “Bengal now has a blend of both youth and experience. I hope this combination will help in building a strong team. As a team, we are not looking too far ahead, rather focusing on our job at hand and preparing well for the season,” Saha commented.

His presence is expected to inspire and mentor younger players, providing guidance and support both on and off the field.

Addressing questions about his age and the possibility of retirement, the 38-year-old Saha was clear about his intentions to continue playing. “Age is just a number for me. As long as I am motivated to play this game, I will continue playing. I have no plans of retirement as of now. As and when I think of quitting the game, I will retire from all formats of the game,” he stated.

Saha also addressed his potential role in nurturing upcoming talent, specifically mentioning his willingness to work alongside promising wicketkeeper-batsman Abishek Porel, who has already made a name for himself in the Bengal team.

“I will do anything possible for the betterment of the team. I will always be a team man, and I am ready to do what is best for the team and also, help prolong the cricketing career of a talented player like Abishek,” Saha affirmed.

His readiness to mentor young players shows his role as a valuable asset in Bengal’s cricketing setup, where his experience can help shape the careers of emerging talents.

As Bengal prepares for the new domestic season, the inclusion of Saha is expected to enhance the team’s prospects. His return is anticipated to bring stability and depth to the squad, as they aim for strong performances in upcoming competitions.
