Yash Dhull’s father backs India U19 ahead of semi-final clash against England

India U19 captain Yash Dhull has been leading his side from the front during the U19 World Cup being held in West Indies. Dhull has played cricket with a positive approach throughout the tournament and he played out of his skin in the semi-final against Australia to earn plaudits from all quarters.

India were at a difficult stage early on with the scoreboard at 37-2. It was then that captain Yash Dhull and vice-captain Shaik Rasheed arrested the collapse and took the game by the scruff of its neck. Dhull played a captain’s knock in that situation and timed his innings extremely well.

He eventually scored a run-a-ball 110 before being dismissed in an unfortunate run out. Dhull’s century and Rasheed’s knock proved to be match-winning for Team India. The bowling unit did immensely well to bowl out Australia for 194 and India secured an emphatic 96-run win to book their spot in the final against England.

Ahead of the all-important final against England on February 5, Yash Dhull’s father is confident that the trophy will return to India. India had also qualified for the final in the previous two editions and although they had won in 2018, the boys in blue lost the final against Bangladesh in 2020 and will be hoping to go all the way this time around.

“Definitely the World Cup will come to India as the team is performing so well then they deserve it. There is no doubt that the other team has also performed well to get there and the aim is only one. The entire nation is expecting them to do well and why not after all they are doing so well.” Yash Dhull’s father Vijay was quoted as saying NDTV.

Vijay Dhull also praised his son’s cricketing brain and mentioned that he picks up on things very quickly and can then direct his bowlers to specifically target opposition batters. “Yash’s cricketing mind is very sharp and he takes things very seriously. He picks up very quickly on what batters will do during such a situation. Which bowler should be put against which batter. He also makes quick changes. Once I asked him what you do then he told me that he keeps an eye on what batter is doing and where he is making a mistake and then accordingly which bowler will be able to bowl him better. His main focus is over there”, he added.
