Indian spinner Washington Sundar said they wanted to execute their plans to the best they could to restrict Zimbabwe in the third T20I. After posting a par score of 182 runs on the board, India was able to restrict Zimbabwe to 159-6.
Sundar played a key role in the team’s 23-run at the Harare Sports Club, Harare on Wednesday, registering impressive figures of 3-15 in his quota of four overs.
The off-spinner struck twice in his first over, getting the big wicket of Zimbabwean captain Sikandar Raza and also accounted for Jonathan Campbell, who was caught at first slip by substitute Riyan Parag. Furthermore, he dismissed Clive Madande, who scored 37 runs for the hosts.
Sundar was awarded Player of the Match for his fine bowling show as he played a key role in keeping Zimbabwe below 160.
Sundar said in the post-match presentation, “Feels amazing and every time I play for the country, it feels amazing. It was definitely a better wicket, in the first two games there was more for the bowlers compared to this game, our batters batted well.”
On the partnership between Myers & Madande, who added 77 runs, Sundar said, “It did put a lot of pressure on us and we wanted to execute our plans the best we can to restrict them. Hopefully, we get to see a lot of places in Zimbabwe and explore more, hopefully, we can seal the series on Saturday.”
Meanwhile, earlier in the match, Shubman Gill played a captain’s knock as he scored 66 runs off 49 balls. Furthermore, Ruturaj Gaikwad continued his good form, scoring 49 off 28 balls. Thus, India was able to post a par score of 182 runs on the board and took a 2-1 lead in the series after their convincing win.
The fourth T20I will be played at the same venue on Saturday.
