ATK Mohun Bagan boss Juan Ferrando happy with the result but not with the footballing details after win against FC Goa

ATK Mohun Bagan trump FC Goa with a 2-0 win going level on points with leaders Hyderabad FC in the Indian Super League at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim.

Manvir Singh scored a brilliant brace against his former side as the Mariners stretched their unbeaten run to 11 games in their current campaign.

Despite their win, head coach Juan Ferrando had mixed feelings at the post-match press conference. Although he was happy with the character shown by the players, he was not satisfied with the footballing details.

When asked whether his team dominated the game or did FC Goa had patches of better gameplays. Ferrando was unconcerned about FC Goa’s play but he highlighted how he was not satisfied with the buildup or the pressing.

“I’m not thinking about FC Goa. I’m thinking about my team. We had more opportunities I think, but to be honest in the build-up, in the timing of press, today was not good. This is the truth. I understand the players are very tired. Today was a difficult game for them because after 45 hours to play it’s very difficult. They had personality and I’m very happy with the character of the team but I am upset about some details in the football,” the Spaniard shared his feelings at the press conference.

Although he is happy that they are at par with the Hyderabad at the summit. Ferrando is more concerned about the next match at hand against Kerala Blasters.

“I’m thinking about the next game. It’s very difficult in every game for me because every opponent has good squads and the second detail is the situation. After three days, it’s very difficult to play. Our focus is thinking about Kerala now and not thinking about where we are on the table because maybe after two-three days you are in the third position or you’re in the fourth position and so, I think it’s necessary to put focus on the next game,” Ferrando added.

It was a terrific game for Manvir Singh and Liston Colaco. While the former bagged a brace, the latter registered an assist and played a huge role in helping ATK Mohun Bagan win against FC Goa. The Indian attacking duo have helped the Mariners keep up their form despite the absence of Roy Krishna, Hugo Boumous and David Williams. But Ferrando feels that the youngsters have a lot to learn.

“At the moment I think I’m happy but they need to improve a lot. Maybe the Indian people are happy with their performance but they need to improve more because in the case of Liston Colaco, he’s very young he needs to learn about a lot of things in football,” opined the ATK Mohun Bagan head coach.

ATK Mohun Bagan will face Kerala Blasters on 19th February in their next Indian Super League clash.
