Debjit Majumder Returns to Emami East Bengal FC on a Two-Year Deal

Experienced goalkeeper Debjit Majumder has signed a two-year contract with Emami East Bengal FC, marking his third tenure with the Red & Gold Brigade. This agreement will keep him at the club until the end of the 2025-26 season, and fans are already buzzing with excitement about his return.

Majumder, who previously played for East Bengal in the 2011-12 and 2020-21 seasons, is expected to bring stability and experience to the squad. Known for his consistent performances over the past decade, Majumder’s return is seen as a strategic move by the club to bolster their defense.

Welcoming Majumder back to the fold, Mr. Vibhash Vardhan Agarwal of the Emami Group highlighted the goalkeeper’s experience and reliability. “Debjit is one of the most experienced goalkeepers in India and has been a consistent performer over the past decade. Considering the long football calendar that lies ahead, we are sure that his vast experience and affinity for East Bengal will add a lot of depth to our squad. More importantly, he is someone who can inspire our youngsters and show them what it means to play for our great club.”

Emami East Bengal FC’s Head Coach Carles Cuadrat also expressed his confidence in Majumder’s abilities. “Debjit has been a highly experienced goalkeeper in the ISL and the I-League. I have known him since my early years in India, around 2016, and since then he has been performing with solidity and a great personality. His work-rate will add more value to our goalkeeping department and strengthen our defensive levels.”

Majumder’s recent performances have been nothing short of remarkable. In the 2023-24 season, he accumulated 1,980 minutes of playing time, securing five clean sheets across 19 Indian Super League (ISL) matches, the Kalinga Super Cup, and the Durand Cup. His contributions were pivotal in helping Chennaiyin FC reach the playoffs, where he recorded the best saves-per-match ratio (3.47) in the ISL with 66 saves in 19 matches. Additionally, he set a new record for the most saves in a single ISL match, making 11 saves in one game.

Majumder, born in Uttarpara, expressed his enthusiasm about rejoining East Bengal. “It’s a homecoming for me because East Bengal was the first big club of my career. I would like to thank Coach Cuadrat and the Emami East Bengal management for showing faith in me.”

He further shared his dedication to the club’s success, “I’ve seen and I understand the emotions associated with this great club. I would like to tell the fans that I’ll leave no stone unturned to take this club to greater heights. Our fans are our biggest inspiration.”

While the excitement around Majumder’s return is palpable, the player’s registration is still subject to the completion of regulatory processes. Once finalized, Majumder’s addition is expected to significantly enhance East Bengal’s defensive capabilities.
