“Depending on the opposition we will adapt ourselves,” says Odisha FC boss Josep Gombau ahead of the clash against Chennaiyin FC

Odisha FC are known as the comeback kings of the Indian Super League as they clawed their way back to beat East Bengal from two goals down at the Salt Lake Stadium. They will look to carry that motivation as they will welcome Chennaiyin FC in their next fixture. Gombau is very happy with his players and feels that the mentality that they have shown was impeccable.

He shared how it was tough to comeback from a disadvantageous position to ultimately win the game at the Salt Lake. He highlights how the players get extra motivated at home with the fans rallying them forward with their chants and cheer.

Gombau was really excited to play the Marina Machans and return to the Kalinga, he also shared how any team can beat anyone in the league this season. “We are excited to play in front of the fans on Thursday. It is an important game, as everybody can see. It is a very tough week with a lot of teams involved. This is a league where any team can beat the other teams, and we will try to play the game well. It will be a top game. I will ask my players to concentrate, to avoid simple mistakes, and most importantly, to put forward a good performance and try to win because if we win that will be a big step,” Gombau stated ahead of the game.

The Spanish coach highlighted how every single game is different and teams need to adapt to different situations and the way they play or press. “Every single game we have our own way to play the game, depending on the opposition team we adjust ourselves on how to adapt, the way that we press and as a single game we will prepare in the same process,” he explained.

The Odisha FC lauded their opponents and feels that it will be a tough fixture as both teams will look to win the game. “Chennaiyin FC have a very good squad with a very good coach. It will be difficult. We played a friendly game before the start of the season, which was a tough fixture, and on Thursday, we will try to defeat them. We have our own plans to try and minimise what they want to do and take advantage of it,” Gombau acknowledged.

Odisha FC are fifth in the points table, they are three points behind second placed Mumbai City FC with a match in hand. Therefore the Kalinga Warriors will be looking to win this game and jump up the spot in the standings. Whereas Chennaiyin FC are seventh as they have secured three wins from six matches along with a draw. So they will look to pull up their socks as they travel to Odisha.
