Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s head coach Jose Molina was happy with the performance of the team after their 1-1 draw against Odisha FC in the ongoing Indian Super League at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
Hugo Boumous was able to put the Kalinga Warriors in front as he found an early goal in the fourth minute. However, Manvir Singh equalized for the Kolkata-based team as he found the back of the net in the 36th minute.
The Mariners dominated the possession with 60.6% and took five shots on target but had to settle for a point.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Molina said in the post-match press conference, “I am happy with the team’s performance in terms of football—the way they played, you know, pushing, pressing high, attacking, good passing, and reaching the opponent’s box. It’s true that in the final third, we needed something extra to score, but overall, I am happy.”
Meanwhile, striker Dimitrios Petratos continued his good show for MBSG and the Spaniard showered praise on the Australian for his impressive performance.
“Dimitrios Petratos played well, helping the team in defence. His work in the training session was good, and he was good in attack, trying to create superiority in the middle by dropping back a bit. With Maclaren upfront, he played more as a striker, looking to get behind the defence,” he said.
“Not lucky today in terms of the score, but happy—really happy—with the performance,” Molina added.
Providing an update on Greg Stewart’s injury, Molina said, “Hopefully, he’ll be ready for the next match in 15 days, after the international break. I hope he can be fit for the next game.”
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Vishal Kaith made crucial saves for the team to keep the opposition at bay and Molina lauded the custodian for his impressive performance.
“(He was) really good, because it was a difficult match for him, for the goalkeeper, as they were counter-attacking.”
“I think he had to be ready, with the team covering the back of the defence, sometimes coming outside his goal. He did a really good job.”
Mohun Bagan Super Giant will face Jamshedpur FC on 23rd November after the international break.
