The summit clash of Hero Indian Super League 2022-23 will be played between ATK Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Goa on Saturday. While Bengaluru FC have won the ISL title once whereas ATK had won the championship on three occasions but they are yet to win it as ATK Mohun Bagan.
Both of these teams had won against one another once in the league stage earlier in the season. Back in December, ATK Mohun Bagan won against the Blues by 1-0 whereas the Simon Grayson’s team were able to take their revenge in February as they won by 2-1.
In fact, Bengaluru FC could only manage three wins in the first 12 matches of the league stage but they were able to qualify for the playoff stages after winning their last eight games. Bengaluru then defeated Kerala Blasters FC by 1-0 in the knockout and then stunned Mumbai City FC on penalties 9-8 in the semifinal.
On the other hand, ATK Mohun Bagan won 10 matches out of the 20 they played in the league stage and finished at the third place in the standings with 34 points. Juan Ferrando’s team won against Odisha FC by 2-0 in the knockout game and then won against reigning champions Hyderabad FC on penalties to qualify for the finals.
Both of these teams will likely play with the 4-3-3 formation in the all-important final. Roy Krishna and Sunil Chhetri will hold the key for the blues whereas Liston Colaco, Hugo Boumous and Dimitri Petratos will be the crucial players for Mariners.
