Manchester City’s head coach Pep Guardiola feels his team isn’t playing badly after their 2-1 loss against Brighton at the Falmer Stadium on Saturday. This was City’s fourth consecutive loss and this is the first time when Pep Guardiola has endured such a losing streak in his managerial career.
Guardiola believes they aren’t playing that badly but the results haven’t gone their way. The Spaniard wants to have a full-strength squad.
Meanwhile, Erling Haaland scored in the 23rd minute but second half goals from Joao Pedro and Matt O’Riley helped the home team register a come-from-behind win.
“It’s what the people want, right?” Guardiola said when he was asked this is an end to an era. “That’s normal — we won a lot. I would just like to have all the squad [available].”
“When we play bad, I am the first to say, ‘Oh, oh, I don’t like it.’ But I don’t have that feeling,” Guardiola said.
City are missing players like Rúben Dias, John Stones, Manuel Akanji and Nathan Aké due to their respective injuries whereas Kevin de Bruyne is not at his absolute best after returning from injury.
“We cannot do it every three days, three days, four days, three days with the [injury] situation we have,” he said, adding with an air of desperation, “I would love to have the players [back].”
On the other hand, captain Kyle Walker urged his teammates to keep fighting to churn out positive results.
“It’s down to us as a group of players to make sure that we’re fighting for this great club,” he told Sky Sports. “It’s tough to take, and I can assure you everyone wants to turn it around as quickly as possible.”
The Cityzens will next take on Tottenham Hotspur on 23 November at the Etihad Stadium.
