SC East Bengal head coach Robbie Fowler was highly disappointed as his team lost their fourth match of the season by a 3-2 scoreline to Hyderabad FC on Tuesday.
Even though they fared much better in attack in this match, having scored their first couple of goals of the season, their defenders disappointed once again as they conceded three goals to Hyderabad FC in the second half.
Aridane Santana scored a brace in a matter of seconds whereas the third goal for Hyderabad was tapped in by Halicharan Narzary. For East Bengal, it was Jacques Maghoma who scored both of their goals.
SC East Bengal are now winless after five games and sit right at the bottom of the table with just one point. Fowler was falling short of words to explain their performance on the field today.
“I don’t know where to start. We say the same thing again and again, I think our players need to concentrate for the whole 90 minutes. We are trying but we are just not good enough,” Fowler said after the match.
“We were late to the party and some of our players have come from I-League and are struggling in the ISL with the standard improving year after year. We train well but when we come in match situations, the players don’t perform as well. I really don’t know what more to do. The recruitment has not been kind to us.”
East Bengal had a 1-0 lead going into the break after the first-half. However, Fowler wasn’t happy with their play in the first 45 minutes as well.
“I actually don’t think we were that good in the first half as well, we were lucky. We needed to concentrate, knew what we had to do. But the players switched off and then our level dropped.”
Fowler also went on to say that some of the players he has in his roster just don’t meet the standard of the League.
It is what it is. We have got the squad. We have mixed and matched everyone and I talk to all the players. I pick the team from what I see in training but the players in that shirt aren’t the same. Some of the players’ performance is just not ISL standard,” he claimed.
