ISL 2021-22: We are confident in ourselves, but we know we have six very difficult games: Hyderabad FC’s Manuel Marquez

Hyderabad FC’s head coach Manuel Marquez has stated that they have all the confidence in themselves but admitted they have six very difficult games in the remaining Hero Indian Super League, league stage. Hyderabad is currently at the top of the standings with seven wins from 14 matches. They have lost five games and drawn two and have 26 points under their belt.

Hyderabad’s next assignment is against previous season runners-up ATK Mohun Bagan. The Mariners are in the sixth position in the points table with five wins and as many losses from their 12 matches.

Hyderabad’s chances of making it to the playoffs look promising at the moment but Manuel Marquez doesn’t want to be complacent.

Speaking on the strategy for the match against ATK Mohun Bagan, Manuel Marquez said, “When ATK Mohun Bagan has the ball, we have to defend the ball well. And when we recover the ball, we have to know what to do with the ball. They have a very good team in practically all the positions. They are very strong in the build-up. They are strong in set-pieces. They are the current runners up in the competition, it will be a very difficult game”.

The Spaniard added that they will need to be at the top of their game in the remaining six matches if they want to qualify for the semifinal stages.

He added, “I am very happy when I hear these things but I heard two-three weeks ago that we are now fighting the top teams who have more budget and fans. There are traditions in these teams. It is very big, and we are fighting. We have to play six games and in these six games, we have to be on top. It will be very difficult to be a champion but it will also be difficult to qualify for top-four but we will try our best. In a lot of games, small details decide the match. We are confident in ourselves, we are optimistic but we know we have six very difficult games”.

Marquez added that it was crucial for the team to get a much-needed week break amid Covid-19 outbreak.

He concluded, “It is important because sometimes you have to play two strong teams in short periods of time. You have (play against) some best teams and the best thing is to adapt. You get time for recovery or the problems caused due to Covid, the players can then arrive (be match-fit)”.

Hyderabad will face ATK Mohun Bagan at the Athletic Stadium, Bambolim on Tuesday.
