Chennaiyin FC has signed the services of their local lad Ajith Kumar from Bengaluru FC ahead of the ninth season of the Hero Indian Super League, the club announced on Thursday on their social media handle. The 25-year-old will join Marina Machans after playing two seasons for Bengaluru FC.
Ajith Kumar had played 13 matches in his two-year stint with the Blues. The defender started his football career with Chennai City FC in 2018 and he played a key role in taking the team to the I-league championship as he played in all 20 matches.
Ajith played in two seasons for the local club and made a total of 42 appearances in his two-year stint.
Chennaiyin FC co-owner Vita Dani said in a press release: “We always love it when we bring a performing Chennai player back to this city and that’s exactly what Ajith Kumar is.”
On the other hand, Ajith is also delighted to join hands with Marina Machans and he will be looking to give his best.
“Feels good to come back to Chennai, but this time as a Chennaiyin FC player. I can’t wait to play in front of the home fans,” Ajith averred.
Meanwhile, Chennaiyin FC has been the busiest team in the off-season and they have roped in a lot of players for the upcoming season. Furthermore, the two-time champion had earlier named Thomas Brdaric as their new head coach.
On the other hand, Chennaiyin FC could not qualify for the semifinal stages in the previous season as they only managed five wins in their 20 league stage matches. Thus, they finished in eighth place in the points table and they will be determined to turn the tables in the next season.
