Odisha FC continues to bolster their squad as striker Diego Mauricio returns to the club on a one-year deal ahead of the ninth season of the Hero Indian Super League, the team announced on Saturday. The forward from Brazil had represented Odisha FC back in the 2020-21 season and had played 20 matches for the club.
Mauricio had impressed as he had netted 12 goals and had also provided two assists during his stint. Subsequently, the Brazilian joined hands with Mumbai City earlier in January 2022 and scored three goals for the team.
Furthermore, Mauricio scored two goals for Mumbai in AFC Champions League and helped his team beat Iraq’s Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya twice in the tournament.
“I am so happy to welcome him (Diego) back to Odisha. He is a player who has already proven his quality in India, scoring goals for Odisha FC and Mumbai City FC,” Odisha FC head coach Josep Gombau said about the appointment.
“I think that Diego is a very big addition to our squad. I wish him all the best for the new season and I am sure with Diego’s hard work, we’ll have a scoring flair in our team,” he added.
Mauricio becomes Odisha FC’s third overseas signing after Carlos Delgado and Osama Malik.
On the other hand, FC Goa has roped in the services of Syrian defender Fares Arnaout on a one-year contract. The defender becomes the Gaurs’ third signing before the new season after striker Alvaro Vazquez and goalkeeper Arshdeep Singh.
Speaking to fcgoa.in after putting pen to paper, Arnaout said, “I am thrilled at the prospect of playing for FC Goa. It’s a big challenge for me – to come to India and show people what I am all about and I’m already excited thinking about the start of the new season.
“I have only heard and seen on screen, the Goans’ passion for football and it gives me a sense of pride to be given the opportunity to represent them. I will do my utmost to bring success to the Club.”
