ISL champions Hyderabad FC has signed the services of Spanish midfielder Borja Herrera ahead of the ninth season of the Hero Indian Super League 2022-23 season, the club announced on their social media handle on Friday.
The 29-year-old Spaniard has joined the defending champions on a one-year deal and he is looking forward to his stint in India.
“This is a very good opportunity for me. Hyderabad FC is a great project with great fans and are currently the Champions. I cannot wait to take on this new challenge,” said Borja Herrera, after penning his new deal.
Borja started his career in an academy at Canary Islands. In fact, Borja has the experience of playing under the tutelage of Manuel Marquez at the Anexo Del Estadio Gran Canaria. Thus, the Spaniard will look to hit the ground running under the same coach.
Meanwhile, Manuel Marquez believes Borja Herrera can play multiple roles for Hyderabad FC and he is going to add value to the squad in the midfield.
“Borja is a complete and technically gifted player. From centre-back to centre-midfield, from a box-to-box role to playing as a winger, he is an effective option in the squad,” said Manolo.
“He was with me during my time with Las Palmas B and he also played in the La Liga with the first team. He has loads of experience in the Spanish second division and in other countries as well and is a good fit for our squad,” he added.
On the other hand, ATK Mohun Bagan have extended their defender Pritam Kotal’s contract, the club announced on their social media handles on Friday. The upcoming season will be the third consecutive edition for Kotal in Mariners jersey.
Meanwhile, Kotal came up with 65 clearances, 62 tackles, 47 blocks, and 46 interceptions in 22 appearances in the previous season for Juan Ferrando’s team.
