FC Goa striker Alvaro Vazquez is optimistic that he will score more goals at the club in the upcoming season of the Hero Indian Super League. The Spanish forward had played for runners-up Kerala Blasters FC in the previous season.
The Spaniard had scored eight goals in 23 matches for the Tuskers in the previous edition of the tournament and thus he had played an instrumental role in taking the team to the final of the season. However, Kerala Blasters FC could not cross the last hurdle against Hyderabad FC in the final clash.
Vazquez joined hands with the Gaurs after his contract with Kerala Blasters FC ended after the previous edition.
“The truth is that I am very happy to be at FC Goa, in a place where the club really wants me to be part of their project. My contract with Kerala Blasters ended (on May 31) and Goa were very attentive,” Vazquez told The Times of India in an interview after signing for FC Goa.
Vazquez is confident that FC Goa’s playing style will suit his game, which will help him reap rewards. The Spaniard revealed Edu Bedia played a key role in roping him at FC Goa.
“Edu was the captain (last two seasons), he is the one who dominates the team’s game. I have already spoken with him and he has told me that he will provide me with a lot of assists and I will be really comfortable (at the club),” Vazquez said.
“I am here to help the club and take them higher, where they deserve to be. I have known ISL (even before coming to India) and Goa is one of the top clubs. My goal is to ensure that FC Goa fans once again enjoy seeing their club at the top,” he added.
Vazquez admitted that he had several opportunities to score more goals in the previous season but he could not grab them.
“Last season I had several occasions that did not end up in a goal. I will score more goals to help Goa,” Vazquez said.
Meanwhile, FC Goa had a disappointing run in Hero ISL 2021-22 season as they managed only four wins in 20 matches to finish at the ninth place in the standings, and thus they could not qualify for the semifinals.
