Mumbai City FC has signed the services of defender Gursimrat Singh Gill ahead of the ninth edition of the Hero Indian Super League 2022-23, the club announced on Friday. The defender had come through the ranks after joining AIFF Elite Academy and he is a product of Chandigarh Football Academy.
The 25-year-old had signed for Bengaluru FC back in 2016 and this was his first stint with a top-flight club. He played in the AFC Cup and he was also part of the Federation Cup winning squad for the Blues.
Meanwhile, Gill made a move to NorthEast United in 2017-18 before returning to Bengaluru in the next season. Gill’s second tenure with the Blues lasted for two seasons, and he also won the ISL title in 2018-19 with the Blues.
The defender is delighted to join hands with Mumbai City FC and he feels it is an honour for him.
“It’s a huge honour and a blessing to join a club of Mumbai City’s stature. I am at a stage in my career where I want to play and gain experience at the highest level and joining Mumbai City will help me take a step in that direction,” Gill said in a release.
Meanwhile, the youngster had plied his trade for I League side Sudeva Delhi in 2020-21 before making the move to ISL outfit ATK Mohun Bagan for the previous season.
Mumbai City FC head coach Des Buckingham said, said: “Gursimrat is another young player that will add depth and versatility to our defense. He has good experiences in the ISL and at the continental level and has shown his ability at training in the past week with us here in Kolkata.
“We are delighted to have him with us and we look forward to seeing him contribute towards our team’s goals this season.”
Mumbai City FC will begin its ISL 2022-23 campaign against ISL champions Hyderabad FC on October 9 in Hyderabad.
